Use a chisel to remove any hardened roofing cement. Use masonry nails or screws to reattach the flashing tight against the chimney. Clean any leaves or other debris out of the gap between the flashing and chimney. To repair your flashing with flashseal you first need to clean the area of any dirt and debris to allow the product to work as efficiently as possible.

Any such leaks can be quite frustrating to diagnose. Chimney flashing can allow roof leaks in the transition area between the chimney and the roofing materials. After the clean area dries apply a thin base coat of flashseal that covers the entire flashing area and extends a few inches above the flashing line.

Small holes or corroded spots in flashing can be easily repaired. Before going up on the roof to do the replacement it is recommended that measurements are taken around the chimney so that the flashing can be ordered. Chimney flashing is usually found under the shingles at a 90 degree angle. Is it a roofing problem or is the leak caused by deteriorated brick or mortar or faulty counter flashing embedded in the masonry.

Apply a generous amount of roofing cement behind the flashing. It is attached to one side of the chimney and one side on the roof.
